I've been volunteering with Our House since 2020. It is an amazing organization. I do much of the delivering so I get to see first hand the good we are doing for people. When I deliver to people, I see the joy of the children involved. A lot of the people that we help are struggling just to provide a nice safe place for their families. We are able, with the generous donations of people, helping them to build a better life for their loved ones. I see kids just wanting to be kids and just wanting to live normal lives. That is hard to do when basic needs are struggling to be met. The innocence of these children really touched my heart. I also see how this organization touches the lives of us volunteers. I take my kids sometimes with me and I have seen change in them. They see how others struggle, and it has seemed to make them more thankful and generous to others. There are so many people willing to help in different ways to achieve the goal of making our world a better place, one family at a time.”

“Our House of the Way is an amazing organization that helps families in need in the Benton Harbor area. We receive clothes and shoes donations from the community, we sort the donations, and curate clothes and shoes for resale purposes. We continue to donate 80% of the donations to the community. We worked hard and have created a successful business that brings in financial support for the organization’s various programs. We use 100% of the revenue to help the community. Working on this project has brought so much joy and gratitude to my life. I have met many Benton Harbor families through this project, learning their life stories and hearing how the organization helps their families gives me motivation to continue to work with Our House. Volunteering has helped me understand there is so much need in our community, we can not sit back and watch. We must take action and help those in need. Our House has changed my life, seeing the happiness and relief in the faces we have helped is priceless. I pray we continue to get help from the community and businesses in order to continue to help those in need.”

“Our House is different! They help you regardless of who you are or your background. It has helped me and my daughter, her 7 children, and 1 grandchild. Our House has stuck with her, judgment-free, recognizing more than her physical well-being. This was an answered prayer for me. Several other programs helped, but soon gave up when we didn’t live up to their expectations. Our House, of course, is hopeful that we change to be better. In this judgment-free zone, we’ve felt worth, not despair; joy, not pain; friendship! I must stress that Our House focuses on more than our outside; it worked on our whole wellness and education. From praying with us to continuing to help guide us to a higher purpose, this has led and fed me to help Our House in any way I can. Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have, I will give! I have a living testimony. When I met Stella Godinho, one of the founders of OUR HOUSE, I was in a shelter with 4 kids and one on the way. OUR HOUSE has helped me throughout the years and very trying times. If it wasn't for the blessings they laid upon my family, I don't know what I would've done or where I would be. They're definitely a blessing to me and my family and I love the work they do for and in the community. The love, care and empathy they have is impeccable and pray they can continue to do what they do for the community and the less fortunate.... Thank you to all the volunteers from OUR HOUSE OF THE WAY!
