English for All

Overview

We launched this project in 2021 with the goal of expanding access to English education for students across Brazil.

Today, we serve learners from diverse regions and socioeconomic backgrounds, while our dedicated volunteer tutors are based in various parts of the world—especially in the United States.

We currently have a growing waitlist of students who are eager to begin their English journey.

These are motivated individuals who dream of learning the language but cannot afford private courses in Brazil.

Thanks to the commitment of our passionate volunteers and the generosity of people like you, we are able to provide free education—promoting greater equality of opportunity, dignity, and hope for those who need it most.

Our volunteers go beyond teaching: they often become mentors, encouraging and empowering their students along the way.

How It Works

  • Fluent English speakers are recruited as volunteers to teach one class per week.
  • Classes are held online via Zoom or Google Meet and last approximately 1 hour per week.
  • The course follows the “English for Everyone” textbook, complemented by practical activities suggested by the volunteers.
  • Students register online and pay a symbolic monthly fee: R$20 for residents in Brazil and US$20 for those abroad.
  • Those facing financial difficulties may request a fee waiver.
  • Each student is assigned to a group and has a dedicated tutor for guidance.
  • To encourage continuous learning, students may attend additional classes as listeners, without active participation.
  • Upon completing the advanced level, students must pass a written and oral assessment to receive a certificate recognized in Brazil.

Objectives:

  • Provide accessible, high-quality English lessons, with affordable fees or free tuition for those in need.
  • Support the social projects of Our House of the Way/Nossa Casa do Caminho (Brazil).
  • Create a continuous learning environment, focusing on practical communication and personal development.
  • Offer volunteers a chance to improve their English skills while engaging in meaningful social work.

Academic Calendar

  • Junior (Kids): 1 year (2 semesters, 48 units)
  • Basic: 1 year (2 semesters, 48 units)
  • Pre-Intermediate: 1 year (2 semesters, 48 units)
  • Intermediate: 1.5 years (3 semesters, 76 units)
  • Advanced: 1.5 years (3 semesters, 69 units)

Methodology

Materials and Homework

All weekly activities are based on the English for Everyone book series.
We use two main volumes:

  • Course Book – the main textbook with theoretical lessons.
  • Practice Book – a workbook with complementary exercises.

Materials are provided for free in PDF format via Google Drive and are easily accessible to students.

Who Are Our Students?

Our students include youth, adults, and even seniors, living in various regions of Brazil and abroad.

Many face economic hardship and see English as a concrete opportunity to improve their lives — whether by securing a job, passing an exam, traveling, or fulfilling a personal dream.

Your dedication as a volunteer may be the first step for these individuals to reach their goals with greater dignity, hope, and independence.

Target Audience:

  • Children, teenagers, and adults (ages 7 and up).
  • Anyone interested in learning or improving their English, regardless of academic background.
  • Individuals seeking flexible learning schedules with a practical and accessible approach.

Why Volunteer?

  • You’ll develop your communication, leadership, and teaching skills.
  • Strengthen your own English skills by teaching with purpose.
  • Gain real classroom experience and receive certified volunteer hours.
  • It’s a great way to build practical experience and begin your journey as an English teacher, even with no prior experience.
  • The most importantly: You’ll change lives through knowledge and compassion!
